Schedule For Stem Cell Transplant
We started the holiday weekend with good news regarding Bruce's bone marrow biopsy. After waiting a week to hear the results we arrived to his doctors appointment prepared for the worst, but hoping for the best. Dr. Mahindra delivered the good news. Bruce's bone marrow is "clean enough" to proceed with the stem cell transfer. His bone marrow was 56% compromised by disease when diagnosed in February. His results from last week show a 1% compromised bone marrow and he begins work-up for his transplant this coming week. Bruce is still battling pain but doctor's hope that after stem cell treatment, his bones will begin to heal and his plasma tumors will shrink and leave behind scar tissue and minimal pain.
Week of May 29:
This week is used for tests to be certain Bruce can withstand the aggressive treatment
Central line is placed for use during stem cell collection
June 9 - 12:

June 13 - 15:

June 15 - 19:
Hospitalization begins and Bruce will remain for approximately 2 1/2 to 3 weeks after transplant
*Bruce will be at Scripps Green Hospital, 10666 N Torrey Pines Rd, La Jolla, CA 92037. He will be under the care of a Stem Cell Team led by Dr. Anuj Mahindra. He will have limited visitation due to an increased risk of infections.
We continue to feel the warmth and support of your optimism, positive thoughts and prayers. I truly believe there is a link between all of the prayers and messages of hope that are sent our way and Bruce's forward progression. A positive attitude is, arguably, as beneficial as modern medicine. Mixed together we have a pretty powerful combination sending Bruce into his stem cell treatment anticipating a successful outcome! Thank you.
